Letter From The Editors: Texas Sounds Like Solidarity with Immigrant Communities

Texas Sounds Like was founded by first- and second-generation immigrants with the goal of capturing and celebrating the art, music, and culture of our city. To do that truthfully means honoring the roots of San Antonio’s identity. We are a multi-cultural, Hispanic-majority city, enriched by immigrant communities from all over the world.
Most of the time, Texas sounds like local music venues, community festivals, backyard shows, and cumbia basslines rolling out of car windows. This week, Texas sounds like protest chants echoing through downtown streets. It sounds like the frustration and fear sparked by President Donald Trump’s inhumane immigration policies and Governor Greg Abbott’s racist rhetoric and militarized response to peaceful demonstrations in San Antonio.
We believe in using our platform not just to uplift music, but to stand with our communities in moments of struggle.
We’re listening, we’re documenting and we’re committed to making sure Texas sounds like the voices of our immigrant friends, family, neighbors and everyone who calls this place home.
