Wilco’s American South Tour Stops at The Espee

Wilco rolled into San Antonio for a stop at The Espee, marking the ninth show on their 17-day “American South” tour with Waxahatchee. Led by the ever-reliable Jeff Tweedy, the band wasted no time diving into a nearly two-hour set that felt both intimate and expansive. They pulled generously from their 30-year discography, blending old favorites with deeper cuts in a way that felt like a gift to longtime listeners. Staples like “Jesus, Etc.,” “California Stars,” and “Impossible Germany” anchored the set, while “Box Full of Letters” and “Bird Without a Tail/Base of My Skull” were some of the deeper cuts of their set.

There was a little something from every phase of Wilco’s evolution, from their early alt-country roots to the more experimental turns of their later years. Hearing songs that dated all the way back to their debut album was a real treat. Whether you’ve been riding with Wilco since the A.M. days or are a more recent convert, this show was a reminder of just how vital and relevant this band still is.
