Fans packed into the Freeman Coliseum last night for Sessanta. The original Sessanta tour kicked off last year as a celebration of Maynard James Keenan’s 60th birthday. Enter Sessanta V2.0: a celebration of Keenan’s 61st. The show featured performances by Keenan’s own bands, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle, along with Les Claypool of Primus.
The concert offered a unique format, with rotating sets from all three bands. AA Perfect Circle opened the evening, with Keenan issuing a familiar disclaimer: put away all electronic devices. It's a rule he strictly enforces at every show, whether it's Tool, APC, or Puscifer. It ended the night early for several patrons, however, most fans complied, staying present and singing along to songs like “Judith” and “The Noose.”
During Puscifer’s sets, Keenan and co-vocalist Carina Round tore through tracks like “The Humbling River” and “The Remedy.” Meanwhile, Les Claypool delivered crowd favorites during Primus’ sets, including “Mr. Krinkle” and “Jerry Was a Racecar Driver.”
For the final song, Keenan allowed the audience to take out their “stupid phones” to record. “We are alive, and you are in front of us, and we are in front of you. This may never happen again,” he said. The night concluded with “Grand Canyon,” featuring all members on stage.
